‘Knowledge is Power’. The power to make an impact on the world. Education is at the core. Proper education is crucial to acquire great knowledge. But there are some kids born with the knowledge. Perhaps the ability to grasp things faster than normal kids. The only thing stops this girl from appearing for medical entrance exam is the age restriction. Sushma Verma wants to be a doctor and waiting until she turns 17. She made a record by completing X class at 7. She got a place in Limca book of records.

Sushma Verma is from outskirts of Lucknow. Her father was a Sanitation worker and mother is a homemaker. A family who cannot afford anything other than a normal education. But Sushma is not an ordinary student. Her talent came to light when she recites Ramayanam as a 2 year old child. She was a bright student in school. After looking at her talent, she was allowed to enroll in Class X at 7. She passed it with outstanding performance. Her parents supported in all possible ways. After all their kids has the most precious wealth in the world, education.

Financial problem became a hurdle as she climbed up in life. She remembered those tough times. But nothing was able to stop her. People from many places helped her in all possible ways. At 13, she completed her undergraduate degree. She enrolled in MSc Microbiology at Lucknow University. In spite of her problems, she got her Master’s degree at 15. In addition to that, she also scored a CGPA of 8.

Sushma always wanted to be a doctor. But our education system restricts people from applying for entrance exams until 17. So she had to wait for another two years. She was really upset with such rules. People should be evaluated based on talents not by age. But she is a bright kid: she had backup plans. Instead of waiting and wasting the two years, she joined for PhD program at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University. Agricultural Microbiology is her field of interest. There is a strong reason to choose specific course.

Sushma used to visit fields and observed the land conditions. The soil in and around Lucknow is becoming arid every day. She wanted to explore the reasons and possible solutions to make it a fertile land again. Because greenery can be built only on fertile soil.

If there is anything sushma’s parents could be proud, is her academic achievements. She has a younger brother who is also set to make some records. Despite the troublesome situation for Sushma and her family, once in a while there is something to celebrate and be proud about.

Sushma is one of a kind who focused on her dreams even though there were lot of problems. Financial problems are not easy to solve. Most of the middle class family can understand her struggle. We wish her great success in all endeavors.

Innovation has been the force disrupting the market. Most of the business worldwide is based on products speaks for itself. If there is a new invention which can benefit mass people, then whole world spins around it. But the inventors don’t feel the significance. For them it is just a thing they love to do. Meet the duo who came up with an idea with great potential.

It was just another day in Mount Carmel school. Anand Gangadharan and Mohak Balla were at class 10. These two guys came up with an idea for science project. It was simple and great at the same time. The idea is to generate current using shoe, based on electromagnetic induction. Their set up will be attached to the shoes. When people use the shoe, due to compression and expansion in sole the current will be generated. That is not all. Their set up includes a provision to charge your mobile. The entire idea is to generate current and charge your mobile on the go. These two little geniuses call it as ‘Walkie Mobi Charger’. The beauty is in the duration when normal charger powers 25%, walkie mobi charger can power 40% of battery.

Imagine what a perfect set up of this can do to humans. All of sudden, everyone would be walking , jogging on the streets. The duo took time to fine tune the model. It was built completely in house by them. The first model was good but huge, so they underwent few iterations. The current version is lightweight, attachable to the heels. But the ‘never settle down’ duo is looking for financial support, to place beneath the sole for ultimate comfort of users. It appeared few sponsors contacted the duo but things didn’t go further.

Mohak was indulged in circuits during his 5th class. So the invention is just another toy in their kitty. Anand was also interested in such projects. They are friends from class 2 and became best buddies during 8th class. Even though both are in different academic path the bond only got stronger. Anand is doing his Btech CSC, Mohak is dropping an year to do JEE MAINS. But still they stay connected. A true friendship meant for lifetime. The duo didn’t drop their golden egg. Once they settle down with academics, have plans to fine tune the device and enter the market in style.

Family support, continuous motivation from teachers is lifeline for these kids. Because in current scenario a school student cannot find time to work on their own ideas. The school culture demands lot of their time and attention. It was hard to carry on the innovation but worth every second. Unlike most of the kids who win several medals and accolades, the duo won the hearts of public. By considering the level of comfort the device could provide for the users. The idea is fascinating. If you imagine the impact of the walki mobile charger in day to day life, it will worth more than many medals. A true innovation for mankind at the right time. Bravo!

Education is the basic foundation of a great success. But sometimes our education system brings in questions about its quality. This is because some people who are talented enough to achieve great without proper education in their early ages. Such personalities put forth some serious challenges to our current education system. This kid is one of them who never bothered about going to school regularly. But he is running two companies on his own. He is the reason behind the India’s first 3D printer made in in-house. Meet Angad Daryani, a 19-year-old inventor and social entrepreneur from Mumbai, India. Although he enrolled in some course, he did a lot without going to the school properly.

Angad Daryani learned things outside the school right from his early school days. He learned a lot of things with the help of YouTube videos. He built a hovercraft on his own by following online trainings. He believed 90% of his education, learnings happens outside the school premises. So he focused on his crazy dreams and learned the essential things. At 8 he built a robot, a solar-powered boat using Lego Mindstorm.

Angad focused on 3D printers and built his own versions of open source RepRap 3D printer. This made him to realize someone has to build our own open source for a better 3D printing machine. So at 15, he worked on an altered version of RepRap called as “Sharkbot”. He has plans to sell this to other makers in India. Normally Angad didn’t have enough time to spend in classes. He felt he could learn most of the things without attending the class, hence became a school dropout.

One of his remarkable invention is the e-book reader for visually challenged people. He calls it as “The Virtual Brailer”. He made all the designs as open source so that anyone who wants to work on it could access it with ease. This is a very rare quality, and it is a sign of helping heart. Angad wants to give back as much as possible to the society. His other inventions includes water level detector, automatic gardening system, etc,

Schooling was always a challenge for him, so during 9th and 10th grade he chose home-schooling, meanwhile continued his R&D work. As time passed, his inventions received recognition, and he was part of few innovation clubs from different universities. He is an ex-team member of Mumbai’s Makers Asylum. He was also a part of Camera Culture group at MIT media lab. He worked in Tree Labs at IIT and innovators club of India. He even had given TEDx talks in India.

Even though he was a school dropout, he found time to continue his education. He is enrolled in Electrical engineering at Georgia Tech. He also has plans to work on some solution for the ever increasing air pollution. He remembered his early days of how he struggled to breathe. He had Asthma issues. So he knows the struggle of breathing better than many of us. The current air quality could bring in adverse effect to everyone. So his current focus is on bringing some effective filtration technique for air pollution.

Angad Daryani is one of those who created a unique path for others to follow. He is passionate about bringing a change in our education system, sailing, football, music, art and fitness. We wish this champion to find many more solutions that could benefit the humanity and nature.
